Viralgen, a CDMO specializing in adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapy manufacturing, announced a planned Chief Executive Officer (CEO) succession.

Who’s Taking Over at Viralgen

Outgoing CEO Jimmy Vanhove will transition to leading development and expansion of Bayer’s United States Pharmaceutical Product Supply Network. Vanhove will be based in New Albany, Ohio, but remains connected in a way to Viralgen. Located in San Sebastian, Spain, Viralgen is a subsidiary of AskBio, which is within the Bayer Group.

In his new role, Vanhove will join Bayer’s Pharmaceutical Division Product Supply Leadership Team. This is the division which Vanhove’s successor, Angela Ochoa Chico, is now leaving for Viralgen. Ochoa Chico had been Product Supply Strategy & Excellence Lead there.

The succession takes effect Jan. 1, 2027.

Outgoing and Incoming CEOs Speak

“It has been a privilege to lead Viralgen through this transformative period,” Vanhove said. “[We’re] committed to people living with both common and rare diseases, as well as the patient foundations that represent them. I am confident that Angela will build on this legacy and lead Viralgen into its next exciting chapter.”

“I am delighted to join Viralgen at such an important stage in its evolution,” Ochoa Chico said. “Viralgen has built an outstanding reputation for scientific excellence, quality, and innovation, supported by an exceptionally talented team. I look forward to building on these strong foundations, advancing our manufacturing capabilities, and further strengthening Viralgen’s position.”
